Cutting payments for "Never Events"
Medicare has cut payments for certain problems that occur in hospitals in an effort to improve quality of care. Currently, Medicare is proposing new cuts in payments for nine more items, leading some health care providers to question how appropriate the new items are.

University patient data breach affects tens of thousands
Computer backup tapes with patient information were stolen form a storage company used by the University of Miami. Officials are preparing to notify 47,000 affected patients.

AHRQ aims campaign at men to get checkups
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality created a new campaign called "Real Men Wear Gowns" to urge men to get more frequent checkups.

A Preventable Epidemic: U.S. Government pleads for leadership on Hospital Acquired Infections
On Wednesday the U.S. government released a report that argues more should be done to combat Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI). The release highlighted the need for more leadership to help sort out the numerous recommendations and emphasize those that can be most effective.

AHRQ unveils first issue on Innovations Exchange website
AHRQ released a first issue of healthcare innovation profiles on its Innovations Exchange website. The site allows readers and healthcare providers to browse and search for innovation profiles that have been added to the site. The inaugural issue has 100 innovation profiles.
